Dansk Audio - Bang & Olufsen
Dansk Audio operate in a premium-niche luxury and design-led market, providing bespoke audiovisual solutions, predominantly under The Bang & Olufsen brand. Bang & Olufsen are the world’s oldest audio business, established in Struer, Denmark in 1925.
Dansk Group has since 1999 provided unique multimedia solutions for some of the most famous names in business, entertainment and sport, both in the UK and overseas.
As well as developing a brand identity that was sympathetic to the scandanavian minimilast aesthetic, I created a unique typeface, 'Dansk A Geometric Sans Bold', which was incorporated into the logo and then rolled out as a badge onto bespoke product, supporting literature and electronic media.
The project also involved photography, filming and editing together footage live in-store performances.
The UK TV show Pointless had an existing brand identity but it had only been developed for the televised version of the show.
As the brand was licensed outside of TV, I faithfully recreated high resolution static versions of the logo for use in print and then created designs and artwork for a range of board and travel games.
I then worked with the licensee to create a mobile app that would compliment the existing off-line media. This involved working on adapting game play, creating graphics and animations and working closely with a locally based coding team.
A selection of posters designs for various music related events including the successful Save BBC 6Music Campaign, music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins, publicity for music releases and the locally based Ipswich May Day Festival.
I worked closely with the game inventor to explore how the game could be realised producing original sketches and concepts, eventually taking the final design through to full 3D product visuals that could be shown to prospective buyers.
Once the game module was prototyped and tested and finally in production, the project then moved onto packaging.
The overall imagery needed to convey a sense of family fun, mild anarchy but in a safe environment. I created the original logo to be imperfect and break some typographic rules, it needed a slightly hand-drawn look to make it accessible. Working to a close brief, the illustration was provided by Phil Garner. I completed the packaging designs initially for UK, US and Italian territories.
Now licensed to Hasbro inc. worldwide; as of January 2O17, Pie Face has sold over 11 million units and won Game Of The Year in London and New York and there are licensed versions with film, game and TV tie-ins.

I’ve over 3O years’ experience as a commercial designer, including 18 as a freelance design consultant. One of my first jobs was writing questions for international editions of Trivial Pursuit.
In 2O15, I was one of the design gurus on Season 1O of The Apprentice (BBC, Freemantle), and most recently a recipient of the Invention Award and Pop of The Year Award on the digital art platform Pop My Mind.
I’ve won awards for design including Designer Of The Year (EyeWire, Los Angeles, 2OO1 - now part of Getty Images). My product and packaging design has been instrumental in winning the Jeu de l'Année in France, and Best Game and Best Toy at the London & New York Toy Fairs on four occasions.
In 2O16 I completed an MA in Arts at University of Suffolk, UK. My main area of research was assessing the impact of the digital on our culture, to look beyond websites, apps and SEO practice and consider trends, attitudes and interactions with technology, arts and social media. This ongoing research feeds directly into, and informs my professional practice as a designer.
In 2O15, I had music performed at DanceEast as part an installation for the musical, 'Paperwork'. In 2O16, I was one of the writers-in-residence for the SPILL Festival of Performance and a speaker at the Notes From China Symposium at University of Suffolk. I'm also a co-researcher for a PhD study at Goldsmiths/Tate/Sainbury's Centre for Visual Arts, a Project Partner at University of Suffolk, a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and a member of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers & Authors (BASCA).
I'm married with 4 grown up children, and we share our home with an adorable and mildly neurotic cocker spaniel called Arthur, six Siberian huskies, a piano and too many guitars.
Aside from my commercial practice, I continue to make art, compose music and write out about culture.
